Welcome to Glennon Heights Elementary!

Home of the Grizzlies

Bill StidhamDear Glennon Heights Community –

Welcome to the new school-year! We are looking forward to a growth mindset year of learning, both academically and socially!  Glennon Heights Elementary continues to be a vital part of our community.  We continue to grow each year thanks to your community support and expressing the importance of our small neighborhood school. That's what makes Glennon Heights a special place!

Each day, each and every staff member at Glennon Heights is dedicated to our school’s mission – All Kids Can Learn. All staff works endlessly to ensure student success in our Jeffco 2020 Vision: content mastery, civic and global engagement, communication, critical thinking and creativity, and self-direction and personal responsibility skills.  These competencies are embedded into our curriculum as well as multi-tiered levels of support for all our students. I feel extremely confident that we are meeting the needs of your child with the team that we have at Glennon Heights, made up of both new and veteran staff members.

Jeffco is committed to the mental health of our students and staff. Thanks to local budget making decision processes we have hired an additional mental health staff member. In collaboration with our staff and community, our mental health providers focus on the following standards: self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. We will continue to further support mental health needs with a prevention program sponsored and implemented by Jefferson County Mental Health, called "Brainwise".  Our mental health team will be implementing a new program called "Skills Streaming" to build classroom survival skills, friendship-making skills, skills for dealing with feelings, skill alternatives to aggression, and skills for dealing with stress.

Our positive behavior system, the “Grizzly GRRS” have been introduced, practiced, and recognized throughout the past three years. We will continue this year recognizing and rewarding positive behavior. Students are recognized and rewarded for positive behavior through collection of Grizzly Stickers that are traded for special prizes.

Grizzlies follow their GRRS!

  • Great Attitudes
  • Respectful of Self and Others
  • Responsible
  • Safe

As a staff we have defined those positive behaviors for the whole school. Throughout the year we will explicitly teach those positive behaviors, and most important, reward those behaviors. Staff will be giving students "Grizzly Stickers" when they demonstrate positive behavior. Students will exchange these stickers for prizes. They will also be recognized with "Grizzly ‘Paws’itive Paw" on the entry bulletin board in the front lobby as well as recognition in our Glennon Heights Newsletter. Monthly, staff will nominate the "Top Grizzly" from their classrooms. These students, who excel in positive behavior, will be recognized at a “Top Grizzly Breakfast” and recognized on the morning announcements and in the monthly newsletter. Classrooms are also earning Grizzly Golden Paws for whole class behavior that is recognized by other Glennon staff.

The whole team at Glennon Heights is dedicated to continuous improvement. This year we are continuing to work on differentiated instructional opportunities for students, learning targets and success criteria, and systemic thinking routines for students.  Our staff and students will continue to practice and learn more about  growth mindset and goal setting.  We are working as a staff to create partnerships for structures that support students in all content areas with rigorous instruction and expectations.

I look forward to working with each and every student and their families! Please pass the word that Glennon Heights continues to be a vibrant, vital part of our community!

The doors are always open and you are always welcome!

Best wishes for an awesome 2018-2019 school-year!

Proud to be a Grizzly!
